Tip to save money on legislation: Most of these links point to the Austlii website. Acts and Regulations can be downloaded from this site in full in rich text (compatible with most word processing software) by choosing the "Download" option. You can then just print it out.
Tip to find what you're looking for in online legislation: It can be hard to find references you need in large pieces of legislation. When you access one of the below acts, a quick way of seeing if is has a section relating to your chosen topic is to search the page for keywords.
Example: Say you would like to know what the OHS Regulation 2001 (about 300 pages) says about machine guarding (apart from accessing the Machinery / Plant topic on this site). Just go to the OHS Regulation 2001 section list and press Ctrl-F. Then search for the word "guard". You will immediately find clause 90 - Guarding particular risk control measures.
A more thorough search: However, this method only works if a word relating to what you're looking for is in the section title. To conduct a more thorough search without wading through hundreds of pages of legalese is to choose the Download option and choose the "Plain Text" option (much faster download than rich text versions).
Then use the Ctrl-F method again, and if a particular word appears in the Act or Regulation, you will find it.
A note of caution: Legislation can be complex and certain provisions may be reinterpreted with provisos via amendment acts, or even other sections within the Act itself. Or particular means of compliance may be set out in Regulations. If in doubt speak to the government agency that administers the legislation (or see if the information is on their website - there are hundreds of links to government agency websites on this site) or consult a lawyer.
